President's Message

Dear Friends,

Carol ChandlerAs I pondered what I wanted to share with you in my final President’s Message, I am once again amazed at how quickly time has passed since I began these duties last September. Serving as your NEAFCS national president has been a wonderful experience.

Probably the best part of the year’s activities has been having the opportunity to interact with many of you and learn more about Extension and Family & Consumer Sciences programs in other states. Extension professionals are a resourceful, creative, compassionate group of people and I count myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn more about the impact that you have on individuals and communities all over the country and to share those impacts with others.

I’ve written in previous months about the important role that Family & Consumer Sciences plays in strengthening families and communities. FCS professionals strive to equip others with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to make healthy choices in every area of their lives. Our efforts are as important today as they have ever been!

In order to continue that work, our profession and our association needs for each of you to become more involved to help us all move forward. I know that you are already working very hard in your local county, area or region, but I am going to ask you to consider digging a little deeper to extend yourself to become more active in our professional association.

There are lots of ways to be more involved – just explore the webpage and you’ll find endless opportunities. NEAFCS can only meet your needs if YOU become an active member…and you need to be an “active member” in more that title alone.

As our society changes, we need to embrace new ways of reaching our audiences and making the information that individuals need available in more formats. I am certain that many of you are exploring new methods of information delivery. NEAFCS can serve as a resource for our members to assist them in those efforts if each of you shares their expertise for the benefit of not only other Extension FCS professionals but also for the benefit of those we serve.

Consider ways that you can become more involved in our national association to help move our profession forward and so that we can all become more effective educators.

2012-13 Theme

As one of my last projects for this year, I’d like to request your assistance with another item. It is tradition that the outgoing president of NEAFCS identifies a charity to which members can make a contribution. This year however, as we look forward to the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Cooperative Extension in 2014, the NEAFCS Endowment committee has prepared a new campaign to celebrate this milestone. You’ll be receiving more details about the campaign at the Galaxy conference.

Instead of designating a President’s Charity, I would like to encourage you to make a contribution to the NEAFCS Endowment fund. It is even possible now to make a donation on our website. You can also break your donation into monthly payments automatically charged to your credit card. Making a contribution to the Endowment is another way to secure the future of our association and our profession! Please consider participating in the campaign at whatever level you choose.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Carol
