Why would you like to be a candidate for this office? Contributing my time and talent to volunteerism has always provided me with a sense of personnel fulfillment. When I can commit to an organization that inspires me, it is far more rewarding and NEAFCS motivates me both professionally and personally. When I became a member of NEAFCS I immediately realized it as a community I wished to contribute to, and it has been a privilege to serve as Treasurer and President- Elect for my state-affiliate while also serving on the national level as the Advocacy Committee Apprentice, Vice Chair and Chair and then as the Vice President for Public Affairs. Because NEAFCS provides its members with a great sense of community, it is where I wish to dedicate my time and efforts for professional service. My previous leadership experiences, both personal and professional, have equipped me to lead with enthusiasm and empathy—qualities that align well with NEAFCS values. While NEAFCS is a professional association it is personally appealing to me. I prefer to dedicate my time to an organization that shares my values, and with NEAFCS, those shared values include strong relationships, meaningful professional opportunities, and career growth. NEAFCS is a place where I can and do utilize professional support and growth while developing lifelong partnerships, collaboration opportunities and most importantly friendships. Since I became Vice-President of Public Affairs, I have been fortunate to develop relationships with colleagues across the country. It has been inspiring to see the work of others and to receive their support for my work. The question for me is not, ‘why would I like to be a candidate for President Elect’ but rather the question is ‘why wouldn’t I run for this office’ because NEAFCS has offered me so many opportunities it seems only appropriate that I would want to give back. In addition to the strong commitment, I have for NEAFCS as a member, I also have leadership skills that, if elected, I would be proud to utilize for the continued success of the Association. From my very first job at age 16 to my current position I have always been offered or promoted to management and leadership positions. A leadership area I pride myself on is mentoring others and leading by example. I have been fortunate to have incredible mentors, many in FCS, who have shown me grace, guidance, and exemplary leadership. Their influence has inspired me to pay their kindness forward and lead by example, just as my mentors did for me. I would be honored to share my leadership skills with my fellow NEAFCS members by listening, communicating and supporting the goals and missions of the Association for continued success.

If you were elected, what would be your top priority/goal for your term? The membership of NEAFCS is growing and this continued expansion is exciting for FCS as a profession. As the Association continues to grow, consistent, inclusive and inviting communication should be a continued priority, not only with new members but with current and life members alike. Recent and current leaders like Jennifer Bridge, Rick Griffins, Julie Garden Robinson, Susan Routh, and Dianne Christensen have communicated with members and laid the groundwork for continued growth. To their credit, these leaders expanded the Association’s community through thoughtful communication. Our current President Jennifer Bridge has made ‘read and respond’ her Presidential slogan and I would like to build on that initiative to keep members engaged and involved. As VP of Public Affairs, I collaborated with the three Public Affairs chairs to design and implement a survey assessing the use and impact of various Public Affairs campaigns. Member perceptions and understanding play an important role in communication utilization. The survey revealed that 50% of the members surveyed (n=122) did not utilize some of the readily available campaign materials—despite their great quality. We also asked why members may not be using resources and top responses were: lack of knowledge of resources and didn’t know how to use resources. The survey revealed that, despite the availability of Public Affairs resources, many members were unaware of their existence or how to utilize them effectively. This highlights the ongoing need for clear and consistent communication with members. If elected, I will aim to build on the achievements of past presidents who prioritized communication by sustaining key initiatives like the mentoring program and enhancing outreach through Regional Directors. Additionally, I will emphasize the Association’s valuable resources to support member professional growth and engagement so that every member feels welcomed, included and informed

Why would you like to be a candidate for this office? As an Extension professional involvement at the national level is important in our work. After serving as a Regional Director, I believe that there is more that I can contribute to the association. As a financial educator in Extension, serving as Treasurer aligns with my work. I have also served as a Treasurer of another organization.

If you were elected, what would be your top priority/goal for your term? After discussing the position with Lance, I believe the trajectory he has moved with the financial aspects of NEAFCS should continue. I will work the with finance committee to ensure that we are being good stewards of the Association’s funds. As an Association we need to continue to identify and find opportunities to support both new and long term members. In situations where that may involve funds, seek ways to do so.

I will also prioritize clear and consistent communication to keep members informed, engaged, and inspired to take advantage of award opportunities. Through these efforts, I aim to foster a culture of growth and celebration, ensuring that every NEAFCS member sees the personal and professional value of participating in the awards program and feels recognized for their community contributions. Why would you like to be a candidate for this office? I am deeply grateful for our national organization and the numerous opportunities it provides for professional development, networking, and community service. This organization has enriched our ability to serve our communities, and I have personally benefited from the leadership and selfless service of esteemed colleagues who have stretched me professionally. I am honored to be considered for the role of Central Regional Director. I am committed to contributing to the energy that propels our organization forward and supports the professional growth of my peers. While no one may ever feel completely prepared and qualified to take on leadership and organizational responsibility, I am inspired by the example set by the current director and those who have preceded her. Their dedication and commitment have laid a strong foundation, and I feel a profound sense of responsibility and humility to continue that tradition. As Central Regional Director, I will serve as the liaison between the Executive Board and State/Territory Affiliate Presidents and members within the region, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. I will plan and conduct Regional Business meetings during the Annual Session, manage financial procedures, and fulfill my duties as a member of the NEAFCS Executive Board. Additionally, I will facilitate the flow of information between affiliates and the National Association, promote leadership and member involvement, and make special efforts to connect with new members. I will contribute appropriately to the NEAFCS Annual Report, attend conferences, and participate in relevant committees to support the organization's growth and success. I welcome the opportunity, if elected, to serve and support our organization in this capacity, ensuring that we continue to thrive and make a positive impact on our communities.

If you were elected, what would be your top priority/goal for your term? If elected as Central Regional Director, my priority will be to foster connections between seasoned professionals and those beginning their careers. I value the opportunity to create growth through networking and highlighting the successes of our colleagues. My goal is to support individuals in their first five years of their Family and Consumer Science careers by facilitating mentorship and knowledge sharing with experienced professionals through the NEAFCS Mentor program. Additionally, I will organize regional topical coffee chats to provide informal settings for members to discuss relevant issues, share insights, and build relationships. By creating these opportunities for connection and learning, I aim to contribute to the professional development and success of our members.

Why would you like to be a candidate for this office? Having served my state affiliate in various offices and served in a leadership role on a national committee, I feel I now have much to offer to the members in the Southern Region. This opportunity would allow me to continue growing as a leader and to give back to the national association. This position will offer a challenge to myself, while utilizing the strengths that I have developed through experiences as an educator and member of various organizations. Much of my experience has been centered on working with members from multiple states to create the Leadership Experience. The idea of multi state collaboration and idea sharing is invigorating to me and may prove a positive experience for the members if giving the chance to experience. I believe this position could be a step towards increasing connections.

If you were elected, what would be your top priority/goal for your term? I would like to have regular meetings with affiliate presidents where open communication and potential collaboration can begin. These meetings can ensure all affiliates understand the request from the board clearly and are able to relay that information effectively to their membership. This will hopefully inspire state associations to be more involved at the national level and more involved with interstate sharing and collaboration. All of us can learn much from each other. I would like to encourage states in the southern region to connect with one another through online platforms such as zoom. Where states could conduct shared professional development opportunities.
